Wolf Moon

full wolf moon

A full Wolf Moon.

January's full moon is called the Wolf Moon because January is the darkest, coldest month of the year, when the proverbial "wolf is at the door."

Nowadays, of course, wolves are much less common and most people have never even seen one, let alone had one howling at the door!

When to go:

January 26, 2013. Moonrise will be at approximately 5:00 pm.

Where to go:

What to look for:

Go for a Full Moon ski or snowshoe - leave your flashlight at home, and experience something magical.

Winter full moons can seem especially bright because the cold air is free of dust and any snow on the ground will reflect the moonlight. The moon will also take a high arc through the sky.
